Sukhbir’s dream airport project moves closer to reality

Chandigarh: A dream project of Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to set up an international airport at Mohali has moved closer to reality. After a long wait of almost four years, the decks have finally been cleared for Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) to acquire nearly three kilometers of the proposed eight kilometer airport road, connecting parts of Industrial Area in Mohali with Kharar national highway-21.
On Saturday, GMADA announced that they would be offering the highest compensation rate in the district so far, at Rs 2.37 crore per acre, to farmers for acquiring 46 acres.
GMADA chief administrator AK Sinha said that the latest compensation rate of Rs 2.37 crore per acre was the highest compensation announced till date in the district. “Our tenders are ready and will be floated within a couple of days. We are hopeful of starting work on the project within 15 days and the road will be completed within five months. We have already paid the compensation money to the land acquisition collector (LAC) of the district,” he said.
