Tier II cities to get no-frills airports


Chennai: Union ministry of civil aviation is planning to promote low cost, no-frills airports in tier II cities as part of efforts to improve regional and remote area air connectivity.
"These airports will be simple facilities, not architectural marvels. It can either be developed as new airports or will be built alongside existing airports," said S Machendranathan, additional secretary, civil aviation.
A report had been prepared and submitted to the government for consideration, he said while explaining the future plans of aviation ministry at an interactive session on `Aviation Cargo Industry: A Vital Link in Logistics' organized by Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the city on Saturday.
