Tree cutting comes to a halt near Biju Patnaik airport

Bhubaneswar: With the Orissa Forest Development Corporation (OFDC) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) being at loggerheads, pruning and cutting of trees near the Biju Patnaik airport to check bird menace has come to a halt. The presence of these trees is a big problem for the airport authorities as the airport's new terminal is scheduled to be inaugurated in third week of this month.
Sources said earlier, BMC had given Rs 67,300 to OFDC to cut trees because they attract birds near the airport area. "We had given the sum for cutting down of trees in the first phase but they are yet to give us utilization certificates (UC). How can we release more money," said BMC commissioner Sanjib Mishra. He said OFDC has asked for another Rs 30,000 to start tree cutting for the second phase.
