18.92 acres for phase II of development plan for Thiruvananthapuram airport

Thiruvananthapuram: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has identified 18.92 acres for immediate acquisition for the second phase of development of the Trivandrum International Airport. It has also sent the area details, as per the settlement registrar's stipulation, to district collector K N Satheesh.
However, the collector, who was recently nominated as the managing director of the Trivandrum International Airport Development Society (Triads), is unlikely to take any action until the government involves the transport department in the acquisition process. The transport department handles issues related with airport development in the state.
"I wrote to the transport department last week pointing out the anomaly. Holding charge as Triads MD, I will have to play the dual role of sending the requisition for acquiring land and also approving it. This could create legal complications. So, I have asked the government to involve the transport department in the requisition process. The department can send the MD a requisition letter rather than it coming from a single source," said Satheesh.
