Chennai: Almost immediately after Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said that he wanted the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to find an operator to run the Chennai airport under a Joint Venture (JV) or Public-private Partnership (PPP) model, the members of the prominent AAI unions were a worried lot.
“They have been talking of privatising airports for a few years now, but it has always happened after the airport has been modernised or rebuilt — like in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi,” a senior union member said.
Now that the new Chennai airport terminals have been opened, they believe that they may have to bear the brunt of swift changes.
