Birds on tarmac compel Kochi flight to go-around

Mumbai: An Air India Express flight from Kochi had to do a go-round early on Tuesday after the pilot spotted birds on the runway. Officials said the concentration of birds around the airport was very high at the time. At around 7.30am, AI Express flight 402 was on its final approach at Mumbai airport. Minutes before landing, the pilot spotted birds on the runway and alerted the ATC. "The pilot asked for a go-around and permission was given immediately," said an airport official. The apron control immediately summoned personnel to clear the runway and ensure the birds stayed away. The flight landed safely 10 minutes later.
