Calls on suspicious objects continue to trickle in 3 weeks after Hyderabad blast

Mumbai: Anxious calls from citizens reporting suspicious objects are still trickling in three weeks after the Hyderabad terror attack, keeping security agencies on their toes. On Saturday, an unclaimed bag at the domestic airport sent passengers in a tizzy.
Psychiatrists explain that this kind of a tense environment, wherein alert citizens press the panic button, is caused by the absence of reassurance from authorities.
"Our country is in a chronic disaster syndrome mode. I recollect an instance after the 1993 explosions where people in a housing society were convinced that AK 56 rifles had been kept on their terrace. It took a lot of convincing for them to accept that those were brooms and not rifles," says psychiatrist Dr Harish Shetty who has worked with disaster victims.
