On March 12, the Vancouver Board of Trade will hold the British Columbia-India Global Business Forum. In her welcome note to participants, Premier Christy Clark explains that a top priority is “strengthening our existing partnerships and creating a business-friendly environment in which organizations from both India and B.C. can flourish.”
But there is a major barrier to creating such an environment: The lack of direct air travel between our two countries.
There is a lot of emphasis at both the federal and provincial levels about the potential for increased trade and investment between Canada and India. Both Premier Christy Clark and Prime Minister Stephen Harper have visited India during the past 18 months, and negotiations are underway for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries.
