Cochin International Airport Limited to commission new radar by April 1

Kochi: A new radar system at the Cochin international airport will be commissioned before April 1, once it is approved by the director general of civil aviation. The trial run of the radar has already begun.
The system will augment the safety of aircraft operations and reduce the holding time of aircraft landing at the airport, said Cochin International Airport Limited director (Cial) A C K Nair.
He added that the radar would reduce the landing time from the current six to nine minutes to approximately three minutes. Besides aiding the airport to optimally utilize the runway, the system would also help in slashing fuel costs.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has purchased the equipment, which Cial provided space and power supply.
