First flight from new airport takes off today

Ranchi: Jet Airways' Kolkata-Ranchi-Delhi flight, which is scheduled to land at 11.40am here on Tuesday, is likely to be the first airplane to touch down at Birsa Munda Airport, marking the beginning of air operations at the new terminal.
Ranchi airport director R R Kumar said all preparations were made. "The airlines have also made all the preparations. It will be a smooth shift," said Kumar. Ranchi will be one of the few airports in the country which will shift the entire air operation to a new facility in two days.
The commercial tax department is keen to slash slab on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) which is high compared to other states. The development comes a day after Ajit Singh asked the state to revisit its tax policy. Sources in the commercial tax department said the airlines wanted the tax slab on ATF to go down by at least 15%.
