Harried flyers taken for a ride

Chennai: If you’re one of those passengers who cringes inside when the bulletin boards at the airport flash the DELAYED sign next to your flight, Tuesday would have driven you crazy.
Between all the delay that the fire at the ATS building caused and a rumour that there was a fire in the airport, passengers had a torrid day. Though AAI and the Civil Aviation Ministry put the number of delays at five departing flights and six inbound ones, the numbers at the gate begged to differ.
According to Flightstats, a global flight performance aggregator, 33 inbound flights and at least 55 outbound ones were delayed between one and eight hours. Normally, 5-9 am is the peak time in the domestic airport, but since ATC was looking to clear the backlog of international flights,  several domestic flights were delayed.
