Mumbai: The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is conducting an inquiry into a serious mishap involving an IndiGo flight at Mumbai airport on Saturday evening which the pilot of the aircraft and airline did not report to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) or to the regulator. the report is expected to be submitted on Sunday.
A Chandigarh-Mumbai flight (6E 433) skidded off the runway soon after it landed at 6.35 pm, but the pilot managed to steer the aircraft back onto the runway, breaking five lights in the process.
The mishap, which would have called for a full emergency response was not reported to the ATC and the pilot parked the plane for its 140 passengers to disembark.
Minutes later an inspection party of the airport’s private operator, the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), noticed damage to the Runway 27’s south-side edge lights and found muddy tyre marks on the runway shoulder.
