Hyderabad: In an attempt to step up security after the Dilsukhnagar twin blasts, commandos of the Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (Octopus) have been conducting mock drills focusing on minor airports, thermal power stations, and temples. The general terror alert issued by the Intelligence Bureau had mentioned these facilities as being possible targets. The alert said that minor airports manned by local police are vulnerable to terror strikes and hijackings.
Octopus teams conducted a mock drill at the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station on Friday and at Gannavaram airport in Vijayawada on Thursday. Vijayawada police commissioner N. Madhusudhan Reddy said the Gannavaram airport is manned by civil police, and that Octopus has conducted the security drill at all vulnerable areas.
