'Repeated' promise on Sahnewal airport fails to excite residents

Ludhiana:  The industry is not too excited and is showing a mixed response to the state government's claim to upgrade the Sahnewal airport to facilitate bigger commercial and cargo planes. The government's recent claim came in its budget document for 2013-14.
While some of the industrialists welcome the announcement, there are many who opine the government had announced this before, but failed to keep its word.
The budget document reads that the length of the runway at Ludhiana airport has to be increased from 4,800ft to 7,500ft to facilitate the landing of bigger Boeing passenger and cargo planes to cater to the needs of the industrial hub. The state government has also mentioned that it is in the process of acquiring 1,827 acre land to set up an integrated aero-city complex consisting cargo and warehouse facilities.
