SC turns down Kingfisher Airlines plea on depositing tax dues

The Supreme Court on Friday turned down Kingfisher Airlines’ (KFA) petition against a Karnataka High Court order that had directed it to deposit around Rs 185 crore with the Income Tax department as tax deducted at source (TDS) from its employees.
According a virtual go-ahead to the department for taking further coercive action against Kingfisher, a Bench led by Justice RM Lodha dismissed the carrier’s request to let the case remain pending in the apex court by simply adjourning it for another three weeks.
Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the airline, began by requesting to adjourn the matter since there was a possibility that some money might come in.
