Thiruvananthapuram: The much-hyped seaplane project would be ready for operations in a month’s time as the Centre has given the mandatory clearances, and six private parties have come forward to operate services.
“Works on setting up the water-dromes at five places are progressing and we are hopeful it would be ready by the end of this month. The operations would commence with Cessna Caravan 208A seaplanes, that has a seating capacity of ten,” said Kerala Tourism Infrastructure Limited MD Anilkumar. The state government has an arrangement with KTIL to implement the project.
The five water-dromes would be at Ashtamudi in Kollam, Punnamada in Alappuzha, Kumarakom in Kottayam, a sport near Bolgatty in Kochi and Bakel in Kasargod. The water-dromes would comprise houseboats as terminals and floating jetties. Apart from this, the existing three airports would also be used for seaplane operations.
