Security beefed up at airports after alert about aerial strike

Mumbai: Security has been beefed up at the city's domestic and international airports after city police received alerts about a possible aerial strike on Wednesday and Thursday.
CISF officials said that repeated combing operations were being carried out and patrolling had been intensified. In addition to this, the Quick Response Team has been deployed to keep an eye on movements at air-side and inside the terminal buildings. Passenger checks have also been intensified and the intelligence wing at the airport is also on its toes.
Senior CISF officials said that CCTV control room is also working overtime to ensure that all areas are monitored. "The city-side security has also been enhanced," said a senior officer.
Juhu airport too got help from the local police to guard the aerodrome's porous boundary which merges with the slums. According to officials, Thirty police personnel, some of whom are armed, are currently deployed at the Juhu aerodrome to patrol and secure the area. The patrolling is being conducted at night too. "This has helped in plugging intrusions for a while. However, its still a long way to go when it comes to having a full security strength at Juhu airport," said an Airports Authority of India (AAI) official.
