SpiceJet passengers first to use new Chennai terminal


Chennai: The passengers reaching Chennai by SpiceJet flight on Friday morning are expected to be the first set of commuters to use the new domestic terminal in the city airport. With safety assessment for re-modeled ramp area underway and the officials working on standard operating procedures (SOP), the new terminal will soon be operationalised in a phased manner, said airport director H.S. Suresh.
“We will first start operations with two airlines, namely SpiceJet and Go Air and later bring in others to the new building,” Suresh said, adding that after a week or 10 days of stabilising arrival operations, the departure operations will also commence from the new premises.
Meanwhile on Tuesday, the former Chennai airport director and currently AAI executive director (technical) E.P. Hareendranathan met top officials in the Se­cretariat and discussed ab­o­ut the traffic plan pertaining to commissioning of the new domestic terminal.
