Work stalled at Andal airport site

Andal: The Andal airport project which is already running late has run into rough weather again.
More than 250 share croppers of Arati village under Laudoha - Faridpur panchayat samity stalled work at the Andal airport project site on Thursday to protest against the delay in getting compensation cheques.
The agitators prevented the officials of Bengal Aerotropolis Limited (BAPL) from entering the site. The gherao was withdrawn after Andal police promised to look into the allegations. BAPL officials said the problem will be looked into.
Seikh Mamun, one of the share croppers, alleged that though the land owners had received their compensation cheques years ago, the share croppers were the deprived lot.
"Work for the airport has been going on in full swing. But the authorities are turning a blind eye to our problems. Hence we decided to take the route of agitation. If the problem persists, we will launch a bigger agitation," Sk Mamun, a share cropper, threatened.
