New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to use Air India's (AI) three new Boeing 777 aircraft for foreign tours by VVIPs. It will now be used by the President, Vice-President and the Prime Minister. The three aircraft are part of Air India' existing order with the Boeing and are yet to be delivered.
The Special Protection Group (SPG), which protects the Prime Minister and other top dignitaries, has suggested changes in the internal layout plan, including seating arrangement, in these aircraft. At a meeting held at the Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan on March 1, the SPG made detailed suggestions to the ministry. It included increase in first-class seats, changes in aisle width, reorientation of the conference room, dining and bedrooms, video walk through, noise-proof VVIP cabins, conversion of single seats to double and so on.
