Flyer pays price for undeclared goods

Bangalore:  When Dr Banda Venkata Ravi Kumar was boarding a flight to Delhi, little did he know that not declaring the value of his goods would cost him dear. Not only did the 59-year-old lose his luggage, but he couldn't even claim full compensation for his monetary loss since he hadn't declared his possessions.
For consolation, Kumar was recently granted a compensation of Rs 15,850, including Rs 10,000 - the litigation cost Air India has been ordered to pay for deficiency in service. The airline has been granted 30 days to comply with the order.
Kumar's luggage was lost while he was on board an Air India Bangalore-Delhi flight on February 18, 2012. In October 2012, Kumar moved the Third Additional District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum after Air India and Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) failed to redress his grievance. He alleged negligence on the part of both Air India and BIAL, and claimed compensation.
