MLAs voice reservations on viability of Mopa airport

Porvorim: Mopa airport became a hot issue of discussion in the Goa assembly on Monday, with even the alliance partner of the government joining hands with some members of the opposition to express reservations about the viability of the proposed green field airport.
Goa Vikas party (GVP) MLA Francisco 'Mickky' Pacheco fired the first salvo, saying the government has to justify "Mopa airport." Participating in the discussion on demands, he said he is opposed to Mopa. "There is lot of land available if the government wants to expand Dabolim airport," he said.
"We are also answerable to our people," pointed out Pachecho requesting the government to stop the land acquisition process for Mopa in view of the Chipi airport coming up in Sindhudurg. He said he has no faith in the central government that it will keep its assurance that Dabolim will be kept open.
Questioning the government's intension in promoting Mopa airport, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said, "it is only a scam."
