Mumbai: When it comes to delays, it is incoming flights which are more off-schedule than departing ones at Mumbai airport.
Most flight delays at the airport occur between 3pm and 11pm. The post midnight flight slot also witnesses major arrival delays. Data released by Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd for March shows that 26% arriving flights at the airport were delayed. Departure delays were only 16%.
The data also slices delays as per time slots. Most arrivals and departures are delayed between 3pm and 11pm. The data shows that 22% departures and 31% arrivals are behind schedule during this time. The main reason, said airport officials, is heavy traffic which the airport witnesses after 5pm. While departure delays are eliminated between 11pm and 3am due to less flight frequency, 27% arriving flights continue to get delayed. Between 3am and 9am, departure delays are again a meager 7%, compared to 23% arrival delays.
