AAI planning small airports in Chenab Valley, Pirpanchal range

Srinagar: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is working on a plan to set up three small airports in Chenab Valley and Pirpanchal range in Jammu province.
An official said the places identified for developing the airports are Rajouri and Surankote in Pirpanchal range and Kishtwar in Chenab Valley.
The issue was taken up by the State Government with the Union Cabinet Secretary AK Seth during his visit to the State last month.
Seth, who along with a team of Union Secretaries reviewed work on Government of India-funded development projects, had assured the State of taking up the matter with the AAI.
“The issue was pending for quite some time,” the official said. “The State Government had earlier also taken it up with the Government of India to provide air connectivity to these hilly and distant areas.”
The official said last week an AAI team headed by an Executive Director visited the identified places for developing the airports.
