Airport land devpt proposal stays on paper

Mumbai: A 2009 land development proposal between the Centre and Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) is stuck because the civic authorities have not approved the building plans.
The proposal envisaged the central public works department (CPWD) vacating its 13-acre plot at Santa Cruz and handing it over to MIAL, which is operating and expanding the Mumbai airport. The land currently houses residences and godowns of the department. In return, MIAL will build residences and offices for CPWD at Nepean Sea Road and Antop Hill.
"The MoU was signed four years ago, but there has been no movement since then," said a CPWD official. TOI has learnt the BMC objected because the plots fall under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) that restricts construction activity close to the coast. There are also issues pertaining to FSI.
