Chhattisgarh to get second airport at Raigarh


Raipur: With the Airport Authority of India (AAI) according approval for developing Chhattisgarh's second airport, the erstwhile princely estate of Raigarh, which is fast developing into a major industrial town, would soon figure on the country's air map. The work on the construction of the Rs 260 crores full-fledged airport is likely to start soon after the signing of the MOU between the state government and the AAI sometime this month.
Confirming the move, Subodh Singh, Aviation Secretary, said the new airport would be developed in two phases, with Rs 158 crore being spend on the first phase. The project is likely to be completed in three to four years he said.
He said once the airport becomes operational, flights of ATR-72 aircraft, which can seat 70 to 80 people, would be started initially.
