Crash victims’ families pick up the pieces, move on

Mangalore: From the time Air India Express IX 812 went down in a huge ball of flame on May 22, 2010, memories of the tragedy remain fresh as ever for relatives and survivors. Three years after the tragedy, many families continue to pay visits to the crash site near Kenjar.
Survivor Joel D’Souza’s family visited the site a few days ago. “Except for a fallen palm tree, the site holds no evidence of an air crash,” reveals Joel’s father Joseph D’Souza.
Most of the eight survivors, including Bangladesh-based physician Dr Sabrina Nasrin, have succeeded in rebuilding their lives without the support of either Air India Express or any other institution.
