Educated women roped in as drug carriers: Customs

Mumbai: The drug dealers attempting to smuggle are now roping in educated women with steady professions as their carrier, say air intelligence unit (AIU) officials. In the last four cases of attempted drug smuggling, the AIU arrested four women one of whom was an event manager, the other, a beautician.
The idea, officials said, is to hoodwink authorities who rely heavily on profiling. Well turned out women pursuing a profession in their home countries are less likely to attract suspicion, feel officials. On Thursday, AIU had arrested a Zambia based beautician for carrying drugs in her check-in luggage. She was to hand over the consignment of six kg to a person in Malawi. Earlier, AIU had arrested a South African national for smuggling drugs worth Rs 13 crore.
