Mumbai: Fearing the extension of Juhu airport runway into the sea will destroy Juhu beach, its citizens have decided to file a public interest litigation against the Airport Authority of India (AAI).
As per the proposed Juhu airport runway revamp plan, the runway will be extended 650metres into the sea and Juhu Tara road will be made underground.
“The extension of runway will divide the 3.5km long beach into two and the main beach will be cordoned off for security. We will lose one of Mumbai’s main tourist attractions,” said Ruben Mascarenhas, a Loksatta activist.
