Kovai ATC gets tech savvy for flier safety

Coimbatore: The Air Traffic Control (ATC) section of the Coimbatore International Airport has been upgraded with the ATC automation system which will ensure safe landing and takeoffs of flights.
The consoles of the ATC section have now been equipped with the AirCon 2100 and the Quadrant ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast) system developed by the Spanish company Indra and German firm Comsoft respectively.
Though ADS-B facility is part of the automation process, the airport is awaiting clearance from Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for using it.
With the automation, the airport will be able to control the arrival and departure of more  aircrafts in a short period of time assuring passenger safety, said Airport Director K Peter Abraham.
The Coimbatore airport had to be upgraded along with 38 other airports in the country for `70 crore.
