Nagpu airport to have dog bomb detection squad by year-end

Nagpur: In an attempt to adopt additional security measures, the Dr BabasahebAmbedkar International Airport, Nagpur has decided to have four sniffer dogs for bomb detection. As a developing airport, the operating authorities feel that procuring these sniffer dogs is a step to keep the airport ready for any kind of situation and having every security measure at place.
Only recently, an unclaimed bag had triggered a bomb hoax at the airport. "There are at least 2000 passengers flying out of Nagpur, especially in summer. We can never guess if one of them is up to some mischief. The presence of a dog squad will be an added assurance about the security measures at the airport," said a senior MIHAN India Limited (MIL) official.
The four dogs will be of Labrador breed which is considered to have the best smell sense. But it will be only by December or January that the dogs arrive here. "There is a lot of specialized training involved which will take at least six months to complete," the MIL official added.
