No idli-vada on buses to Bengaluru International Airport

Bangalore: An ambitious plan by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to serve piping hot idlis and vadas besides other snacks on buses headed to the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) has fallen flat, owing to poor response from caterers.
The idea behind serving snacks and breakfast on airport-bound buses was to ensure that air passengers flying long distances didn't end up missing a meal. But the tenders that were floated elicited zero bids as no caterer came forward to take part in the project.
BMTC managing director Anjum Parvez confirmed that the process had to be scrapped as there were no bids even three months after the tenders were floated.
He explained that one of the requirements stipulated in the tender was to have a person serve food as well as keep a watch on commuters browsing internet or watching TV on the screens fitted behind seats in the buses.
