Passenger traffic at Surat airport up by 25%

Surat: In what could be seen as music to the ears of airline companies planning to start operations from Surat, the outbound passenger traffic from the airport catered by two airlines - Indian and SpiceJet - on the Mumbai and Delhi routes has gone up to 20,000 per month.
The official statistics of the passengers travelling from Surat airport maintained by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) suggest a 25 per cent increase in the passenger traffic in April 2013 compared to the same month previous year.
Every month around 10,000 to 16,000 passengers travel to Mumbai, Delhi and other destinations from the city in Indian Airlines and SpiceJet aircraft. From March 2013, the number of passengers has increased to 18,000 to 20,000.
