Seat of power may move to Air India building

Mumbai: The state secretariat may soon have a new address, albeit temporary.
The government on Friday participated in a bid to acquire a few floors on lease in the Air India building at Nariman Point as the Mantralaya building is slated to undergo an extensive makeover and the government wants to shift most of its departments under one roof.
After the Air India board recently decided to move its headquarters from Mumbai to New Delhi and issued an advertisement leasing out vacant space in its 23-storey Nariman Point building, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan floated the idea of shifting the state headquarters temporarily there.
"The government has submitted the bid for the Air India building premises. The technical bids will be opened next week. Later, the national air carrier management will open the financial bid," said a senior government official.
