Smart intranet to end airport woes

Kolkata: Acknowledging the lack of coordination between various stakeholders at the airport, Director General of Civil Aviation Arun Mishra told TOI that the industry needed to make a paradigm shift. "At present, partners like airport operator, airlines and controllers function in compartments. Walls need to be pulled down. We need to adopt a system in which everyone will know what is happening around. Lack of situational awareness is a major safety concern," he said.
Kolkata airport authorities said work on a collaborative decision-making (CDM) model was already under way. "We are working to improve operational efficiency of all airport operators by reducing delays, increasing predictability of events during the progress of a flight and optimizing utilization of resources. This will be achieved through improved real-time information sharing on the intranet between airport operators, aircraft operators, ground handlers and air traffic control," Kolkata airport director BP Sharma said.
To ensure that the latest information is available to all, an intranet is being created where each airport partner can feed information on its domain while getting to view data provided by other partners.
