Travel agents to down shutters on Tuesday on commission woes

The Travel Agents Association of India on Saturday issued a statement saying its 2,800 members will voluntarily keep their business shut on Tuesday.
The agents are demanding higher compensation from airlines, apart from transparency and regulation of fares.
European Airlines do not pay commission while Air India and Jet Airways pay one per cent in commission to the agents. Even productivity bonus is paid on basic fare and not on the full fare. A few months back, the Supreme Court banned transaction fee, included in airfare and retained by agents in absence of airline commission.
