After plane acquisition, Ajit Singh takes charge of height clearance

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh, who had to abolish the aircraft acquisition committee after coming under criticism for giving himself the power to clear aircraft imports, has courted fresh controversy by assuming direct supervision of the Appellate Committee for Height Clearance.
At least one Member of Parliament has accused the panel of being discriminatory since Singh reconstituted it in January while insiders claim that it is also beset with delays and a lack of transparency.
The committee decides on height clearance to buildings coming up in and around airports, near runways or in the glide path of an aircraft. The panel was called the Grievance Redressal Committee and functioned under the chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
