Airbus sees mega growth in India

Toulouse: Indian investors have approached Airbus to set up an aircraft manufacturing facility in the country but the European major says it may be a while before it does so. "Private Indian companies are eager to invest but so far we have no plan for an assembly line in India. The market size is not the same (as China) at present. But Indian airlines can see the same growth," Airbus president and CEO Fabrice Bregier told TOI.
The aircraft manufacturer sees tremendous growth in India with the biggest operator of the A-320 fleet, AirAsia, all set to open a subsidiary in the country, apart from the mega orders placed by IndiGo. "Two of our best customers, AirAsia and IndiGo, are very successful. We see a lot of (growth) potential for us in India," Bregier said.
However, India's denial of permission to foreign airlines to operate the A-380 has disappointed Airbus. "This (denial for A-380 operations) is unfortunate for the Indian economy. A number of studies have shown the benefits an A-380 gets to the local economy by stimulating ancillary revenue and getting traffic to airports. Airlines want to fly the A-380 to India," said Chris Emerson, head of marketing at Airbus.
