Kolkata: The Customs authorities at Kolkata airport seized 608 grams of gold concealed in the body of a passenger who arrived from Bangkok in an Indigo Airlines flight on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, the passenger, Masked Ali Alomar, was taken in for interrogation after he cleared immigration.
The suspect revealed he had hidden the gold in his rectum, a modus operandi that has in recent times gained popularity among smugglers of precious metals. The passenger has been arrested.
On Saturday, too, a Qatar Airways passenger from Doha was arrested after the Customs officer's detected 1.3 kg gold hidden in his shoe soles.
