Direct private choppers towards Uttarakhand rescue operation: Lok Dal

Lucknow: The Lok Dal on Monday slammed the Centre as well as the state government for turning a blind eye towards the problems of people stranded in Uttarakhand. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Sunil Singh, president of Lok Dal, said, "there are at least 500 private helicopters in the country and the Union ministry of civil aviation must deploy all these for relief and rescue operations."
Taking a dig at the Centre, Singh said it was "ridiculous" of the government to refrain from declaring a disaster of this magnitude a 'national calamity'. He stated that thousands of persons from UP were stranded in Uttarakhand, but the state government was not reacting adequately.
On the question of hike in power tariff, Singh said citizens of the state have no problem paying the increased amount, provided they get adequate electricity to fulfill their daily requirement.
