Govt to revive Hazaribag airstrip

Hazaribag: The state civil aviation department has decided to renovate the abandoned airstrip and convert it into an adventure sports-cum-entertainment centre.
Civil aviation secretary Sajal Chakraborty, who was here, said here on Saturday that the department would not only develop the airport for landing of planes but it would also set up facilities for paragliding, parasailing and ballooning along with a motel so that the people who love adventure sports can enjoy there.
He also said once the project was completed, it would become the first paragliding centre in Jharkhand. "The department can start work in another six to seven months as there is some opposition from local people," he said.
Local people opposed the idea to renovate the aerodrome when the district administration started constructing the boundary wall in June 2010. The department had sanctioned Rs 6 crore for construction of the wall.
