Misplaced luggage: Airline penalised

Bengaluru: The III Additional Bengaluru Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed Emirates Airlines to pay Rs 1.7 lakh to two city residents for deficiency in service.
This fine includes Rs 50,000 for delay in the flight, Rs 1,00,000 for delay in delivering the baggage, and Rs 27,500 for taxi charges in the USA, the destination of the travellers.
Paras Jain, a resident of Gandhinagar in the city dragged the airline to the consumer dispute forum after his US visit along with his wife Asha Jain. Mr Jain had purchased two air tickets to Orlando by Emirates Airlines for April 26, 2012 by paying Rs1,62,570.
They were scheduled to reach Orlando the same day. But due to a delay in the departure of the flight from Bengaluru, they missed the connecting flight from Dubai to London and the second connection from London to New York. The flight from New York to Orlando —by American Airlines — was also delayed. They finally reached their destination on April 28, but only to find that their baggage was not on the same flight.
