'No frills' airports for Guntur in the offing

Guntur: As part of the Centre's plans to construct no-frills airports in small towns, a delegation of Airports Authority of India (AAI) made a whirlwind visit to Guntur on Thursday.
The team comprising AAI executive director DP Singh and senior officials Moitra (GM) Bhalal (DGM) and Rajeev Honda (AGM) inspected the proposed site between Pitchireddipalem and Mallayapalem villages in Prattipadu mandal for construction of airport. Later, speaking to the reporters, Singh said the Union government was keen to develop airports in small towns particularly which have passenger potentiality.
He said the AAI was studying feasibility with regard to setting up of airports at 13 places in Andhra Pradesh including Guntur, Nellore, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Ongole, Kakinada, and Warangal. He said small airports would be constructed to facilitate landing of 70-seater flights.
