Chennai: The privatisation of Chennai airport would soon become a reality as a committee was formed under the chairmanship of the regional executive director (north) Anuj Aggarwal on Tuesday to formulate and execute the privatisation process.
AAI sources said the committee has been instructed to report directly to the secretary, civil aviation ministry, and not the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
“With pressure mounting from the ministry to privatise Chennai and Kolkata airports at the earliest to minimise the government’s financial burden, a committee has been formed with members from three AAI departments: commercial, engineering, finance, and a representative from the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) of India,” the AAI source added.
Further, former AAI executive director V.K. Kalra, who monitored the implementation of the privatisation in Delhi and Mumbai airports, has been appointed special consultant to the committee.
