Mumbai: A day after a 35-year-old Polish woman was arrested, she was granted bail on Monday. The woman was arrested for allegedly creating a scene on a Poland-bound aircraft four days ago as she was being deported from India.
Police sources believe that the woman could be suffering from a mental illness. She was lodged at Byculla jail for a day, said senior inspector J Giram of Sahar police station.
An airport source said the woman, who has a two-year-old daughter, was detained at the airport’s refusal room about 20 days ago so she could be deported.
Four days ago, when airport authorities forced her to board an aircraft, she assaulted a woman officer of the immigration department. She even threatened to kill her daughter if she were not allowed to disembark.
“Fearing that she might carry out the threat, the pilot used his discretionary powers and ordered that she be allowed to get off,” said the source.
The woman, who arrived in India in 2008 on a six-month tourist visa, has been saying that she does not want to leave India. She claims to be a devotee of Lord Krishna.
