Thiruvananthapuram: The Seaplane service, which will be launched on Sunday, may earn the laurel of being one of the fastest completed projects in the history of the state. Kerala is the first state in the country to have a seaplane service after Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
"The project was started in late July last year and is now ready for inauguration. This is especially striking if you look at the time taken in getting a multitude of technical and other approvals from the central and state governments," said tourism secretary Suman Billa.
Billa said there wouldn't be any change in Sunday's scheduled programme and chief minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the service by taking the first flight. "DGCA regulations restrict VIPs travelling in single engine aircraft owned by government or any public limited company, whereas the VIP is free to travel in any aircraft owned by a private party.
