Winged guest with healing touch will fly to city this August

Kolkata: This August the city will get a winged guest of a different kind. A flying hospital is set to touch down at the NetajiSubhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital will give a halt in the city for about three weeks. A number of eye surgeries will be conducted in the hospital.
The ORBIS DC-10 Flying Eye Hospital is a unique project by ORBIS International that flies to different cities of the developing countries to provide eye care services. It has tied up with the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) Kolkata. And the hospital is touching down in the city after six years.
"The last time it landed in Kolkata was in 2006. During its stop in the city this time, the medical staff in the flying hospital will conduct state-of-the-art surgeries on children with eye ailment. In addition, doctors, nurses and paramedic staff of our hospital will get training that would help them in upgrading skills," said Dr Gautam Bhaduri, director of RIO.
A unique alliance forged between medical and aviation industry, the specially designed DC-10 aircraft has units including a laser treatment room, an operation theatre, a sterilization and a recovery room apart from a 48-seater classroom in the front part of the aircraft.
