Mumbai: Eleven Chinese air travellers were intercepted by the Airport Customs at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport recently for trying to smuggle Red Sanders in violation of the export import policy in India. Around 308 kg of Red Sanders, valued at Rs 15.40 lakh, was found in their checked-in baggage.
Following a tip-off, officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Airport Customs intercepted them on June 27 while they were departing by Malaysian Airlines MH 195.
The prohibited goods were seized under Customs Act, 1962. The passengers were handed over to forests officials for further investigation.
