AAI trains staffers in recognizing fake currency

Nagpur: A couple of instances of fake notes given to it during payment of landing charges prompted Airports Authority of India (AAI) to organize a workshop for its staff to help them identify fake notes. The workshop, with help from RBI, was held recently. AAI is also thinking of acquiring a machine to identify the note.
These precautions were sparked off after two instances this year of fake notes being found in the cash deposited by AAI. Both incidents involved Rs 500 note. "A pilot deposits landing charges with on duty air traffic control (ATC) personnel. Money is deposited in the bank in bulk. Completing all the formalities sometimes means two or three days pass before the money reaches the bank," said an AAI official.
This makes it difficult to trace the origin of fake currency. The official also said that problem of fake notes doesn't generally happen with airlines flying regularly through the airport as the landing and other charges are managed on credit basis.
