Ahmedabad: Every year, Rs 30 lakh is spent on maintaining the Inter Terminus link (ITL) at the Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport, which remains unused due to negligible numbers of transit passengers . The maintenance money comes from the airport fee that flyers pay with the ticket every time they travel.
The ITL was made at the cost of Rs 40 crore to help passengers transit from the domestic to international terminal and vice versa using an underground walkalator . It was made during phase two of the airport along with the international terminal in 2010.
As there is a lack of air connectivity of other cities of Gujarat to and from Ahmedabad , the ITL lies deserted. "The timing of international and domestic flights do not match, hence there are no transit passengers ," said R K Singh, airport director.
